Teri Smola, a member of Circulators since 2004, died peacefully in her sleep on the morning of September 24, 2011.
Teri served as the Circulators' Class Treasurer in 2005.
Fellow Circulator Andy Cumbo wrote the following in remembrance of Teri:
When I first met Teri, it was the fall of 2004. She was the Class Treasurer
at the time. I was a class member. I grew to like her more and more as the
weeks passed. Her friendly demeanor and encouragement helped get me through
the class, and motivate me not to quit at times when I wasn't sure I'd do
well as a recycle dancer. After I graduated in June 2005, I'd often sit with
Teri during class just to visit with her since, by then, we were friends.
Before long, I was helping her with Class Treasurer. I even subbed for a her
a time or two. When I was asked to be VP, which at the time included Class
Coordinator. I also took on the task of Class Treasurer that year. Teri was
my "co" for all 3 of these. She and I traded off who did what, and
helped each other as best we could. She was GREAT to work with, and a
pleasure to have around in general. Teri held the position of Class
Treasurer until her medical issues forced her to give it up. She later
returned for a time after her treatments, and even then was as helpful as
her health allowed her to be, even though she didn't have an official title
or office held at the time. That was Teri's way. She quietly and faithfully
helped out anywhere and everywhere she could with the Circulators to help
the dances run more smoothly. This was also true in her personal life, as she
was in the medical field and cared for people. She always had a heart for
helping, both with people and animals. Teri had a willing servant's heart
and a beautiful, gentle spirit, and was a valuable asset to the Circulators.
She embodied the true square dance culture, and she will be greatly missed.
Our sympathy goes to Teri's family and friends.
